In the course of the last two decades the Georgian society has been continuously asking the following question: was it possible to avoid the civil war of the nineties, events of Abkhazia and South Ossetia that resulted in thousands of deaths, causing hostilities among people and destroying many in Georgia and the whole Caucasus?

There were rumors that Nikita Khrushchev intended to send the entire Georgian nation into exile in Siberia. Authorities of the Republic were very concerned.
